Understanding SPCC Membership

SPCC offers two membership grades to suit different needs. Whether you're an active boat owner or want to maintain your connection with our community, there's a place for you. Here's what you need to know about joining and the responsibilities that come with membership.

Boat Owner Membership

Boat Owner membership is for members with a boat permanently moored in the Shelly Park mooring area. This grade gives you full access to all club facilities including moorings, haul out and hard stand, fresh water and power from the service grid, kayak and dinghy storage, and the clubhouse. You'll be part of our working bee roster and haul out team, contributing to the maintenance and upkeep that keeps our fees affordable. Your spouse and children are counted as members with the right to access facilities and skipper boats in club events.

Associate Membership

Associate membership is designed for members who no longer use club boating facilities but wish to retain their association with SPCC. This might suit former boat owners who've sold their vessels but want to stay connected with the community, or those planning to return to boating in the future. Associate members can participate in social events and maintain their connection with the club's friendly atmosphere.

New Member Requirements

New club members looking to use haul out facilities must first participate in the yearly haul out team roster and attend at least one working bee. This ensures you're familiar with club facilities, procedures, and safety requirements before using the equipment. Your boat will not be eligible for haul out for a minimum of 6 months after joining. Only boats permanently on moorings in the Shelly Park mooring area are eligible for haul outs. This graduated approach helps new members integrate safely into club operations.

The Self-Help Tradition

The club has always had a tradition of self-help, DIY and cooperative working together. Members use their skills and labour not only for their own boating activities but also in support of the club, its activities, and maintenance of all assets, facilities and equipment. This cooperative spirit is what keeps our fees and charges low and makes our annual social and boating activities possible. It's this inclusive approach, responsible attitude, and willingness to help each other that makes SPCC the great club it is.

Family Membership Benefits

Spouses and children of members are counted as members, giving them the right of access to facilities and to skipper boats in club events. Family members are subject to the rules and discipline of SPCC as set out in our Management and Operations Manual. A précis is available from the Club Secretary. This family-inclusive approach strengthens our community and introduces the next generation to the joys of boating.

More Than Just Moorings – It's a Community

Throughout the year we host social events that bring our members together. From our annual picnic at beautiful Gulf beaches to prize giving ceremonies, and working bee BBQs – there's always something happening at SPCC. Details of all events are published in our member newsletter. These gatherings are what transform a boating club into a true community of friends who share a passion for the water.
