Roster Commitment
If you wish to haul your boat out at our facility, you must make yourself available for the haul out roster to help with other members' boats. This rotational schedule means you'll be rostered on approximately every 5-6 weeks for a Saturday or Sunday, working 2-4 hours around high tide. You're required to be present and assist with hauling out, moving and re-launching your boat. This community approach is what keeps our costs low and builds the camaraderie that makes SPCC special.
Bio Fouling Compliance
Prior to your boat being hauled out, the hull must be cleaned of marine bio fouling in accordance with Auckland Council rules. If you carry out cleaning, it's a great opportunity to check your boat's dimensions so we can adjust the cradle to suit perfectly. Hulls must not be cleaned whilst on the haul out trolley nearing the high tide mark. Wet sanding is not allowed on the hard stand. All coatings, fibreglass, fillers and other by-products from repair and maintenance must be contained and disposed of according to Auckland Council guidelines.
Hard Stand Usage Rules
The hard stand shouldn't be treated as cheap storage. Please don't ask to be hauled until you're genuinely ready to work steadily on your boat, as it ties up cradles and space that other members may need. Before haul out, you must provide a schedule of intended work and estimated duration to the Haul Out Controller. If additional work is discovered that extends your stay, you must advise the controller before starting so the Committee can assess fairness to other members. Remember, rates double after 2 months and penalty rates apply after 6 months.
Safety Procedures
All club members have a responsibility to ensure their actions cause no harm to other members or the public. The cradle must be adjusted to fit your boat properly with measurements recorded for future use. Any wedges or timber packing must be tied securely to cradle arms. Those working around boats must wear the hard hats provided. A public walkway passes through part of the hard stand area, so keep the area tidy and don't inconvenience passers-by. An industrial vacuum is available in the workshop and can be connected to scrapers and sanders for safe debris management. All vessels must have insurance.
Cradle Setup and Equipment
The cradle's forward arms can be set close to your boat's width at the correct distance from the bow, allowing you to drive the boat in until it stops in the correct position. After arms generally need clearance on the maximum beam. Make sure cradle arms are set at the same distance from the centreline on each side so your boat ends up centred. Mark your boat's draft clearly on the cradle where shore crew can see it. Write dimensions down for future use so you don't have to measure each time. Some club cradles are available – see the Haul Out Officer or Club Captain for details.
